Fly Fishing the Everglades

Laid‑Up Tarpon — These fish often appear to be resting just beneath the surface, seemingly uninterested, as if fully aware they are the undisputed kings of the flats. While some anglers insist they won’t eat in this state, a well‑presented fly can quickly change their mind. What looks like a lazy, indifferent fish can suddenly come alive—eating decisively and erupting across the surface in a burst of unforgettable chaos.

My name is Capt. Scott Taylor, and I guide in Everglades National Park and the 10,000 Islands along the southwest coast of Florida, just south of Naples and Marco Island. I enjoy working with fly anglers of all experience levels. I began guiding in 1990 and earned my Captain’s License in 1997. After all these years on the water, nothing motivates me more than putting clients on fish.

I love easing along a mangrove shoreline, searching for that subtle dark shape in the water—whether it’s a Redfish, Snook, or Tarpon. One of the most rewarding aspects of flats fishing is the teamwork between guide and angler. I position the skiff for the shot, and you deliver the cast. Seeing an angler get the opportunity, make the presentation, and come tight on a fish is what this job is all about for me.

The Everglades are my favorite place in all of Florida to pursue laid‑up Tarpon, Snook, and Redfish. We’ll be fishing from an 18' Hell’s Bay Waterman powered by a 60 hp Suzuki—an ideal skiff for quietly navigating shallow water and getting into the places these fish love to hide.

Rates are $750 for a full day.
